Adopt or not?

I was watching the following video which explains some key aspects of economics. What scared me the most was the one on population growth. I cannot even imagine how the growth would be in the next 60 years. Just imagine how life was 60 years back. That should give us an indication.

Most of us like to have more than 1 kid so that our children can grow with siblings to share their life with, especially if we didn’t have any. I was wondering, should we have 2 or more kids or just have 1 and adopt the rest.

So why not adopt? Of course, we need to do that only if we are confident that we can treat them as our own.

  1. well, “have one adopt one” was the slogan from early 90’s itself. i really wanted to go for it after having my fist child. yet, my ambition met its dead end when there was a strong opposition from elders and non-cooperation from my spouse. i gave up for two reasons – (1) consequences of going against so many unwilling factors and (2) my lack of confidence that i be able to bring up the second child without telling the truth [have you watched 'Amruta?']. at times i regret and curse myself over that. and i end up having a second one of my own. i still think of adopting one if not an infant but in need of care and support. i hope this generation among their many plans add this as one and adopt these less fortunate children.

  2. I understand. I believe telling the child the truth is the best for the child than hiding it (so as not to repeat ‘Amruta’ scenario). Well, I hope you can adopt someone at a later stage of your life.

I had the same dream for a long time. For some reason or other I could not until now. But I know I will sooner than later. At least 3 or 4 of them. :) Pretty soon.

I believe true motherly love doesn’t discriminate against adopted children.
