Are you getting the right education in your life?

I am reading this book “Think on these things”, by J. Krishnamurti (I told you I am a great fan of his work). I was hooked with the first chapter itself and wanted to share with you. It talks about the education we receive in life and if that’s what we really need in our life. Here is the jist of it.

Is your life all about having a job and preparing yourself to earn a livelihood? Surely, education has no meaning unless it helps you to understand the vast expanse of life with all its subtleties, with it’s extraordinary beauty, its sorrows and joys.

To live is to find out for yourself what is true, and you can do this only when there is freedom, when there is continuous revolution inwardly, within yourself. But you are not encouraged to do this. Your parents and society want you to live safely. Living safely means living in imitation and therefore in fear. Not to imitate but to discover – that is education, is it not?

Shouldn’t we be creating an atmosphere of freedom so that you can live and find out for yourselves what is true, so that you become intelligent, so that you are able to face the world and understand it, not just conform to it? It is only when you are constantly inquiring, observing, learning that you find truth, God or love.

So the function of education is to eradicate this fear that destroys human thought, human relationship and love.

So true. Don’t you all agree? Well, Flow everyone…. Let your imagination run wild. Don’t be afraid to think differently.

  1. Very Nice…I was just browsing through the blogs listed on Indiblogger and found yours among others…Nice work …Keep it up!

  2. Thank you Shijay. It’s motivating to see comments like this. I want my blog to be more general than about my day to day routine. I hope I will find enough things to write about in long run. 🙂

  3. This is soooooooo true Janya. We all are given a wonderful life to discover so many things, not just do some graduation and end up in earning our bread and butter. Infact all living beings do that. I know its very easy to say/comment this but its very hard to implement it. As we know that everything will start with single step towards it, I think we should start to do this. I appriciate you are walking in the right path to discover it.

  4. Thank you Savitha. That’s sweet.
